Jetblue retained Graf & Lewent Architects as special architectural consultants to design and coordinate the Systems Operations Center (SOC) at their new headquarters offices in Long Island City, Queens. The SOC is the hub of Jetblue’s operations, requiring attention to the unique functional and technical requirements of this 24/7 facility. GLA was involved with the project from its earliest stages, including advising on site selection and visiting other airlines’ operations centers to identify best practices. GLA attended day-long off-site sessions to develop a detailed program in collaboration with the key SOC managers and technical staff. The resulting 18,000 square foot facility includes the main SOC space, holding over 100 positions, and Incident Operations Center, an Emergency Control Center and a variety of support facilities. GLA worked with the general office architects, HLW, to insure that the SOC, while a distinct facility, worked in harmony with the general fit out of Jetblue’s new headquarters.
