Graf & Lewent Architects was retained by CUNY to completely gut an existing 1,650 square foot lab and create a new Organic Chemistry Lab and Instrument Room. The lab is capable of housing two classes of 12 students each at one time, and is equipped with 14 fume hoods. The lab also features an array of utilities including air, gas and vacuum, plus nitrogen gas and distilled water. The space includes two make-up air handling units that are tied into the new fume hood exhaust fans on the roof. To minimize energy use, the opening of the sashes in the fume hoods are integrated into the controls for the exhaust fans and make-up air units.
