In-Line Baggage Handling System and Terminal Addition
United Airlines, Terminal C, Newark Liberty International Airport, NJ
Project Size: 70,000 SF
Graf & Lewent Architects designed United’s new In-Line Baggage Handling system to replace all the stand-alone baggage screening systems previously located in dispersed locations in Terminal C. The project includes a 3-story, 70,000 square foot Central Baggage Inspection Building and a new 4-line Inbound Baggage facility. The project involved the complex integration of the new building and baggage system with the existing Terminal, including major modifications to the existing FIS Arrivals Hall. Terminal areas that were occupied by scanning systems were restored as passenger circulation and airline operations areas. The project was approved by the TSA and designed in accordance with Port Authority Sustainable Design initiatives.
